Safe Work Is For Life.

Celebrating Our Reasons for Working Safely.

Every October, National Safe Work Month brings workplaces across Australia together to champion meaningful conversations and reinforce the importance of creating safer, healthier working environments for everyone.

This year’s theme, ‘Safe Work is for Life’, serves as an important reminder that workplace safety extends far beyond policies, procedures and the construction site. It’s about protecting our team and the broader community, supporting their wellbeing, and ensuring they return home safely to the people and moments that matter most.

At Newpol, safety is more than a workplace responsibility. It’s a shared commitment that underpins how we operate, the decisions we make and the way we look after one another.

Throughout October, we’ve brought this commitment to life through a series of activations designed to engage our staff, involve our wider community and encourage conversations about why working safely matters.

From showcasing the creativity of our youngest community members to sharing the stories of our direct team and supporting important industry discussions, National Safe Work Month has provided an opportunity to celebrate what safety truly means to us.

To kick off the month, we invited the children of our Newpol employees and subcontractors to put their creativity to the test through a special drawing competition.

Our young artists were encouraged to draw themselves enjoying their favourite activities with their loved ones.

The result was a colourful collection of drawings capturing the people, activities and moments that make coming home safely so important.

Beyond the fun and creativity, the competition carried a meaningful message. Behind every person working on our sites is a family, a support network and someone looking forward to welcoming them home.

A big thank you to all our talented young artists who participated and helped bring this important message to life, and congratulations to our competition winners!

Everyone has a reason to work safely. This October, we turned the spotlight on our people to discover what theirs looks like.

We invited our team members to complete a simple but powerful statement:

‘I want to come home safe, so …’

Their responses offered personal insight into the lives, passions and experiences that matter most beyond the workplace.

From spending quality time with loved ones and pursuing new passions, to simply enjoying life’s everyday moments, each response highlighted something unique about the people who make up our team.

While everyone’s reasons may differ, the message remains the same; every person deserves to return home safely at the end of the working day.

By sharing these stories, we’re reminding our people and the wider construction industry that workplace safety isn’t simply about meeting requirements or following procedures. It’s about looking after one another and protecting the experiences that make life meaningful.

Because when we understand what matters to the people around us, we strengthen our collective responsibility to keep each other safe.

To close out the month, Newpol proudly sponsored the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC)’s Safety Month Workshop.

Led by experienced coach, trainer and speaker Jane Strangward, the interactive workshop provided an opportunity to learn, connect and explore different perspectives on building personal resilience, particularly how to recognise the early signs of burnout and develop practical strategies for managing workplace pressures.

Recognising the demands of our fast-paced and high-pressure industry, Jane’s workshop reinforced the importance of proactive stress management. Furthermore, how our ability to identify and understand our individual stress triggers will enable us to better support personal wellbeing, resilience and engagement, both at work and beyond.

We are proud to have supported NAWIC’s Safety Month Event, providing an important platform to deliver practical resources, develop effective tools, and promote a positive safety culture across our industry.

Reflecting on the importance of National Safe Work Month and the role we all play in creating safer working environments, Newpol’s HSEQ Manager, Liz Holzschuster, shared:

"The theme, 'Safe Work for Life', served as a valuable reminder to everyone that a workplace injury doesn’t just affect your work. Everyone was encouraged to consider their reason to stay safe, whether that be participating in a favourite hobby or sport, caring for a pet, or spending quality time with family and friends. The drawing competition was a beautiful reminder for many of us with children, nephews or nieces, why they want us to stay safe at work, too."

"Everyone was encouraged to consider their reason to stay safe..."

National Safe Work Month may be coming to a close, but the conversations, connections and lessons shared throughout October will continue to shape the way we work.

Each initiative has reinforced an important message: safety is personal, and everyone has a role to play.

At Newpol, we're proud to foster a culture where our people look out for one another, speak up when something doesn't seem right and take responsibility for creating positive outcomes every day.

Because at the heart of every project are the people and the moments that matter most.

The message may have been highlighted throughout October, but it remains just as important every other day of the year.

At Newpol, safe work isn't just part of the job. It’s a commitment for life.
