In Focus: Community.

Strengthening Communities Through Construction.

Every project we deliver is more than construction, it's an investment in people offering safe, supportive spaces for local communities.

Across Victoria, councils and government agencies continue to deliver integrated, multipurpose community infrastructure to support growing populations. These projects provide access to essential services, encourage social inclusion, and create healthier, more connected communities. At Newpol, we are committed to contributing to these goals through thoughtfully designed, high-quality developments that put people first.

One example of this is our Belmont Redevelopment, delivered in partnership with Homes Victoria and Housing Choices under the Victorian Government’s $5.3 billion Big Housing Build. This project consists of 29 architect-designed apartments that combine environmental sustainability with social purpose. Each home is designed to be energy-efficient and accessible, meeting Green Star 5-Star, Livable Housing Australia Silver, and NatHERS 7 Star standards. With features such as rooftop solar, double-glazed windows, water-efficient fixtures, and communal gardens designed for food gathering, food production and residential enjoyment. The development is ideally located, showcasing views of the Barwon River Valley, and offers convenient access to Belmont’s shopping precinct, public transport, parks, as well as walking and cycling trails. The Belmont Redevelopment will house those at risk of homelessness, aged and disability pensioners, and women and children escaping family violence.

In Australia, 1 in 6 women experience domestic violence. Every woman deserves a safe place to turn to when leaving a harmful situation. That’s why our work within this sector also extends to delivering projects specifically for vulnerable women and families fleeing domestic violence. These homes, delivered for the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, are designed to provide secure, supportive environments for those who need them most.

We were also proud to have delivered the Youth Transition Hub in Pakenham for the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, back in 2020. This facility provides vulnerable young people, often on the brink of homelessness, with a safe home and a support network to prepare them for independent living. Comprising eight independent living units and a multipurpose community building, the hub follows an early intervention model that equips young people with skills for their future, ensuring stability and hope at a crucial stage of life.

Another community project we’ve delivered is the Mornington Community House, for the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council. This community centre plays a vital role in fostering connection and wellbeing across the community. It hosts social and peer support groups for those who may be feeling isolated, adult education programs including literacy and language support, as well as health, wellbeing, and lifelong learning opportunities. These programs are made possible through the Neighbourhood House Coordination Program, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council.

For our team, these projects carry profound significance. Ayesha, one of our Project Managers, shared her insights on why she chose this industry and what makes projects like this especially meaningful to her:

“I initially chose engineering as a humanitarian cause, to help people. Engineers have the ability to assist with providing clean drinking water to communities, provide critical infrastructure that society requires to function. However, over time I moved to construction to be on the ground, delivering needed infrastructure and giving back to society. In my role I have the ability to assist hundreds of people and have a positive impact on their lives.”

At Newpol, we know that a community project has the power to change a life. Whether it’s housing for vulnerable groups, facilities for young people, or spaces for local support networks, our mission is to deliver projects that build safer, stronger, and more connected communities across Victoria.
