Newpol are proud to be delivering a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre (PAC) for the students from Albert Park College (APC) and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), located within the historic Gasworks Arts Park.
As the first stage of a broader creative precinct, the facility will support advanced performance, rehearsal, and arts education, while also providing a shared resource for the wider community in collaboration with the Gasworks Arts Park. The site’s significant heritage elements will be integrated, with all walls constructed prior to 1950 being retained and incorporated into the design in an unaltered state. The original 1850s facade of the Old Gasworks site will be repurposed as an internal architectural feature of the new PAC.
We will begin with the demolition of existing structures, followed by the construction of the new PAC and entry forecourt. The facility will accommodate a 360-seat theatre including a main performance stage, backstage loading bays, green and dressing rooms, control and audio rooms, and a range of smaller theatre and rehearsals spaces designed to support the schools' diverse and high-calibre arts curriculum.
Aligned with APC’s strong emphasis on creative and performing arts education, this world-class precinct will support one of Victoria’s largest government school music and performance programs. The new facility will provide students with professional-grade spaces that enable creativity, collaboration, and technical excellence, while strengthening connections between education, industry, and the broader arts community.
