The $10.2M D&C contract involved the construction of two double-storey buildings comprising 29 apartments, consisting of 25 one- and four two-bedroom apartments. The dwellings feature rooftop solar, private balconies offering views of the Barwon River Valley, double-glazed windows, and have been positioned to maximise cross-ventilation, shade, and access to communal gardens.
This redevelopment was the first social housing project approved through the fast-tracked system implemented by the State Government to help the industry bring homes to market quickly. The dwellings will now house individuals on the priority list of the Victorian Housing Register, including those at risk of homelessness, aged and disability pensioners, and women and children escaping family violence.
The dwellings were designed to meet GreenStar 5-Star, LHA Silver, and NatHERS 7-star requirements — a development that embodies both social and environmental sustainability, and truly serves the Belmont community.
